Description

Enteric (gastrointestinal) and diarrheal diseases are a major cause of childhood death in the developing world, killing nearly 1 million children under age 5 each year. For those who survive these illnesses—which are transmitted through the fecal-oral route and include rotavirus, cholera, and typhoid—repeated episodes of severe diarrhea in the early years of life can lead to serious, lifelong health problems.
Starting from January 1, 2013, survey data has been collected in Mirzapur (Bangladesh), Kamalapur (Bangladesh), and Soweto (South Africa). Each row in this dataset represents a survey of a home about a child under 5 years of age.
